Disparities in health outcomes in pediatric type 1 diabetes (T1D) based on race/ethnicity and socioeconomic position (SEP) have been reported. We compared T1D characteristics between Eritrean status-less children living in Israel and native-born Israeli children. This observational study compared 7 Eritrean and 28 Israeli children (< 8years old at T1D diagnosis) who were diagnosed in a single diabetes center during 2015-2019. Sociodemographic and diabetes-related data from diagnosis until the last clinic visit were retrieved from their medical files. At diagnosis, the mean age was 4.8 ± 2.2years, 17 (48.6%) had diabetic ketoacidosis with a mean HbA1c level of 10.5 ± 2.1% (91.3mmol/mol) and 29 (82.9%) had ≥ 2 pancreatic autoantibodies. The mean T1D duration of follow-up was 2.7 ± 1.4years. We performed a comprehensive literature search to identify eligible studies published up to June 20, 2020, including the PubMed, Web of science and Embase databases. Summary odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were computed using a random-effects model (I ≥ 25%) or a fixed-effect model (I < 25%). Totally, sixteen case-control and six cohort studies on the risk of childhood cancer associated with maternal diabetes were included. Overall, children of diabetic women had a significantly increased risk in childhood malignancy (OR, 1.30; 95% CI, 1.10-1.53). Notably, a significantly elevated risk of childhood cancer in the offspring was found for women with pre-existing diabetes (OR, 1.41; 95% CI, 1.17-1.70), but not for women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) (OR, 1.10; 95% CI, 0.94-1.28). For site-specific cancers, maternal diabetes was associated with a higher risk of leukemia in offspring (OR, 1.30; 95% CI, 1.15-1.48), especially for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (OR, 1.44; 95% CI, 1.27-1.64). However, no significant associations were observed between maternal diabetes and the risk of lymphomas and retinoblastoma. Our meta-analysis indicates that maternal diabetes is associated with an increased risk of childhood cancer in the offspring, particularly for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. We aimed to explore the experiences of husbands of women diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, highlighting their stressors and the resources they rely on to cope, in Kumasi, Ghana. An exploratory descriptive qualitative research design was adopted. Fifteen in-depth interviews with participants were conducted. After a participant's written consent, we audio-recorded the interview sessions and transcribed them verbatim. We managed and analysed the data manually. The experiences of husbands as primary caregivers of their wives diagnosed with advanced breast cancer have been broadly categorized under two main themes stressors and resources. The analyses revealed that the burdens associated with the husband's primary caregiving roles threatened the marriage, their relationships with others, work, and finances. Regardless of the stressors, participants drew on a range of resources such as acceptance, marital obligation and commitment to marital vows, social support, and spirituality to cope. The study is include the partners of the married ones by designing programs that help the husbands to understand the situation and adequately provide the care that promotes the quality of life of the husband, wife, and the family. In recent years, several techniques have been introduced to allow safe oncologic resections of cancers of the pancreatic head. While resections of the mesenterico-portal axis became now a part of the routine treatment, patients with a cavernous transformation of the portal vein still pose a surgical challenge and are regularly deemed unresectable. Here, we describe a technique of initial venous bypass graft placement between the superior mesenteric vein or its tributaries and the portal vein before the resection of the pancreatic head. This approach avoids uncontrollable bleeding as well as venous congestion of the intestine with a continuous hepatic perfusion and facilitates oncologic resection of pancreatic head cancers. This technique, in combination with previously published resection strategies, enables tumor resection in locally advanced pancreatic head cancers. Perioperative hypertension may be the result of renal failure, volume overload, or activation of the sympathetic nervous system. Concerns regarding end-organ effects or postoperative bleeding may mandate regulation of blood pressure. During the perioperative period, various pharmacologic agents have been used for blood pressure control including sodium nitroprusside, nitroglycerin, β-adrenergic antagonists, fenoldopam, and calcium channel antagonists. The following manuscript outlines the commonly used pharmacologic agents for perioperative BP including dosing regimens and adverse effect profiles. Previously published clinical trials are discussed and efficacy in the perioperative period reviewed.
